West African Photo Safari

Waiting for our Senegal flight in Brussels, many were reading the Arabic-scripted Koran -- we were in the minority sipping on Belgian beers!

On the coast of Western Sahara, Africa, we could see a sandstorm brewing up

The sandstorm became massive, going thousands of feet into the sky

Our flight route as we headed for Dakar, Senegal

Enjoying fine Belgian beer to quench our thirst from watching all that sand in the Sahara!

Street scene in Dakar, Senegal, where a family had set up "house"

Eating two favorite Senegalese specialties with local Gazelle and Flag beers

Derek attracted quite a curious crowd when we stopped by a rural Senegalese village to stretch our legs

A young baobab tree by another typical Senegalese village

Overtaking one of the many horsecarts on the major "highway" as we approached The Gambia

The friendly people waved as we passed in our 4x4 Pajero

The cosmopolitan border crossing!

Trucks didn't seem to have any weight restrictions and we saw several tipped over on their sides with their goods strewn everywhere

Crossing the Gambia River by ferry

Derek on the ferry -- can you tell which one he is??!

We were glad to have our own privately hired vehicle instead of being on the local "bus"!
