UTOPIA: Your Government
All governments need rules, laws and a system that helps it
to run properly. You will need to make set up your government.
Steps to Creating a Government Structure:
Things you must consider when formulating your Utopia
- What type of government do you want? Decide and
define.
- dictatorship
- communism
- socialism
- democracy
- What laws or rules must the government and its people
follow to keep things safe, and productive?
- Who will be enforcing these laws or rules? You will
need to create a bureaucracy.
- Read the following documents included in this
notebook: Magna Carta (green) and the Bill of Rights
(blue). You will also need to read Sir Thomas More’s Utopia Book II
on Towns, Traveling, and Magistrates.
- How will you protect your government? You will also
need to read Sir Thomas More’s Utopia Book II on Military.
Activity 2: Structuring your government
Your founding group needs to write up the following
documents for presenting to the class. You may have Mrs. Gee edit your rough
drafts. Your final drafts should be in a folder with a cover page. Your cover
page must have the name of your Utopia.
- A Declaration of Intent (Why form this Utopia
under what type of government you have selected.) (1 page min)
- Bill of Laws for your Utopia (2 pages min)
- Bureaucracy chart of what the various
government departments are and who is in charge of them (1 large
construction paper)
- Military or Defense System for your Utopia
- Infrastructure: Fire, police, education, sewer/
waste management, city management/ bureaucracy, and taxes if any.
