eScrip FAQ

What is eScrip? eScrip is a simple, easy-to-do, and ongoing fundraiser. Companies donate a portion of the money you spend at their business back to Rancho. Here’s how it works:

1. You register with eScrip (it’s free!!)
2. Companies sign up as eScrip Merchants
3. You shop at these eScrip Merchants
4. To thank you, the companies give back money to Rancho!

Sounds too easy – what is the catch? There is no catch – it really is that simple! But here’s the key…if you shop at an eScrip Merchant – like our local restaurants– and you are not registered with eScrip, then the Merchant will not donate anything! That is why we say it is like you are just ‘throwing money away’ – they are willing to give money to our school, but to make it happen you have to register!

How about Grandma? Good news - friends and family can enroll, also…grandparents, aunts, uncles, anyone who shops! Remember, the companies you shop at (the eScrip Merchants) are the ones who give the money – not Grandma!

What do you mean ‘register with eScrip’? You create an account on escrip.com and enter in your: Debit Card #’s Credit Card #’s Pavillons/Vons/Safeway Club Card # Macy’s Credit Card # Other ‘loyalty’ accounts from eScrip Merchants…

I’m worried about Identity Theft – why do I enter all that information? Good question. It’s a two-part answer…one, the site is secure (in fact, their site has a section that describes the technology that keeps it secure…), and eScrip will not share your information with any other parties. Two, most eScrip Merchants use your debit card or credit card numbers as the catalyst. It is how they recognize you and how they know where to send their donations to – however, some eScrip Merchants require you to use their loyalty cards (like Pavillons and Vons) or their retail credit cards (like Macy’s), otherwise they will not donate on your behalf. Their loyalty cards, like your eScrip account, are free of charge.

What is our potential? Here is a quick example…if the family of one of the Rancho eats out at e-scrip restaurants, and they have over $90 donated by these merchants to Rancho School. Enrolling one Grandma this year will easily push that over $100 – just for buying groceries and eating out! And remember, we asked for a donation for each student at the beginning of the school year…but if each family created an additional $100 (or more!) of free contributions from eScrip, we could multiply our donations for the year!

And the best part is…this does not cost you a dime!

So please…Register yourself. Update your account. Call Grandma. Forward this link to Auntie. Make a deal with your brother. We want to maximize these free donations – will you help us??!!

What is the limit we can earn with eScrip? There is no limit – in fact, many eScrip Merchants donate higher percentages the more you spend with them. There is a school in Phoenix that raised almost twenty-eight thousand dollars last year. How? They got everyone involved – everyone.

How do I register? On our main eScrip page, there are three different Sign-Up options described…click on the one that best fits you, then follow the step-by-step directions posted on our site!

What Is eScrip? Try this…walk over to the trash can, grab all the cash in your wallet, and throw it away. That’s crazy, right? You wouldn’t waste money like that, would you? But that’s exactly what many of us are doing right now – because we are not enrolled with eScrip for Rancho! Local businesses will donate THEIR money to our school – but only if we tell them what school should get the money!

eScrip has proven to be an incredible resource for raising money for our schools, as participating businesses contribute a percentage of your grocery loyalty cards, credit cards, and debit/ATM card purchases to the school, group or organization of your choice. These small earnings add up to about $1000 a month to the school so your participation is crucial. Schools that are really effective in registering for eScrip programs receive over $4000 a month. All you have to do is register your cards -- Macy's credit cards, VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Safeway Club Cards, and many more -- with eScrip.

We need all families to change the beneficiary to Rancho. For those wanting to go the extra step, you can encourage friends, neighbors and other family members to enroll in the eScrip program as Rancho San Joaquin Middle School, 4861 Michelson Drive, Irvine CA 92612. Want to see $8 add up to $43,000? OK, let’s do some fun math here… If one Board member’s family last year created over $90 in donated funds, primarily from shopping at e-Scrip Merchants. Add in a Grandma or an Aunt, and that number easily gets pushed over $100 from one family. That’s something around $8 per month per family – not donated by the family, but donated by the businesses where the family shops! Once Rancho families all sign up, we will have well over 450 families at $8 per month, times 12 times 450 families equals…Forty three thousand dollars!!!

Think that could benefit our school, especially with the significant budget cuts from state funding?
