TELEPHONES / CELL PHONES: School phones are used by teachers and staff members for school business. School phones may be used by students in emergencies and only under staff supervision. Cell phones may be brought to school. However, they must be turned off upon arrival on campus and remain off until 2:59.  This includes text messages and phone cameras.

TEXTBOOKS AND MATERIALS: Students will be issued textbooks necessary for class studies and assignments. The student is responsible for taking good care of his/her textbooks, including keeping them covered at all times. Students will be charged for lost or damaged textbooks.

CALENDAR OF SCHOOL EVENTS: At the beginning of this Binder Reminder is a monthly calendar of activities, holidays, events, and special dates to help you plan. Dates and times are subject to change. Check the Principal's Newsletter and Web Calendar for current updates and changes.

FOUR CRITICAL WORK HABITS FOR SUCCESS

Bringing Materials To Class: 3-ring binder, pens, pencils, Binder-Reminder, texts, P.E. uniform, etc.
Using Time Effectively
: being on time, beginning individual and group assignments promptly
Participating Actively:
persisting, listening,
cooperative thinking and problem-solving
Preparing For Class:
completing homework,
reading, studying, readiness to learn

Our Belief: The faculty believes that the school should focus on helping adolescents to learn to use their minds well. We see the importance of motivating students to challenge their learning capabilities and to refine their critical thinking skills. We hold in common the belief that a student's ability to engage in successful learning depends upon work habits/attitudes. These habits/attitudes are often referred to as EFFORT.

How Parents Can Help: We believe that one of the most difficult tasks students face in the middle school is the ability to be organized. Therefore we insist that students organize their work in a three-ring binder. Each student has been encouraged to purchase and use a Binder Reminder. This is a valuable organizational tool for students that should not be overlooked by parents.

Teachers will encourage students to write down daily and long range assignments in their Binder Reminder in order to organize their workload. Parents can keep track of the work their students are doing by regularly reading through the Binder Reminder and discussing assignments with students. We appreciate active parental support in helping students to demonstrate good work habits and to use their minds well. When students learn that their hard work pays off, the results, we are sure, will include greater individual academic progress and success.
